Supported Independent Living (SIL)

The SIL Program provides housing and supportive services to help transitional age youth develop the skills necessary for successful independent living.

Program Overview

SIL serves young adults ages 18-24 who are:

  • Transitioning from foster care
  • Exiting residential treatment
  • At risk of homelessness
  • Needing support to achieve independence

Housing Options

Apartment Living

  • Shared or individual apartments
  • Furnished units
  • Utilities included
  • Safe neighborhoods with access to transportation

Support Levels

  • Intensive SIL: Daily contact and support
  • Moderate SIL: 3-4 contacts per week
  • Minimal SIL: Weekly check-ins

Educational Support

  • High school completion/GED
  • College enrollment assistance

Program Structure

Phase System

  1. Orientation Phase (0-30 days)

    • Assessment and goal setting
    • Establish routines
    • Build rapport
  2. Skill Building Phase (1-6 months)

    • Intensive skill development
    • Practice and application
    • Regular assessment
  3. Independence Phase (6-12 months)

    • Decreased support
    • Self-sufficiency focus
    • Transition planning
